I was born in a small village in Meru Country on the slopes of Mount Kenya in Kenya. I studied law at the University of Nairobi and the Kenya School of Law and was called to the Kenyan Bar in 1992. After completing my studies in Kenya, I worked as a Junior Counsel before opening my general practice in Mombasa, Kenya in 1995, where I gained valuable experience in civil litigation and successfully argued cases in various areas of law at all levels of the Kenyan courts.
I was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2004. I immediately opened my law practice in Vancouver with a mission to help people from all walks of life gain access to the legal system.
The cost of legal services continues to be an obstacle to people receiving proper legal advice. To that end, I charge fixed fees in all my cases, with very few exceptions where the legal issues are complex.
As an immigrant from Africa, I feel I have a deep understanding of multicultural issues and the challenges faced by immigrants and Canadians alike in Canada, which I try to use to serve my clients and the community.
In addition to my legal practice, I am involved in community work, providing pro bono legal services in Canada and supporting the education of underprivileged children in Kenya.
When I am not practicing law, you can find me gardening, walking around my beautiful city, hiking the Grouse Grind, or cooking for my family and/or friends. Nothing gladdens my heart more than my family, laughter, good food, dancing, and meaningful friendships.
After 30 years of legal work, I have reduced my practice work to focus on immigration and refugee protection law.
For current clients, however, I also offer services in Real Estate and in Wills and Estate.

Scams and Fraud
There are new scams every day involving the sale and refinancing of real estate. They are also becoming increasingly sophisticated. Some red flags may be overlooked when signing contracts. Certain patterns in a real estate transaction may indicate to a keen observer that there is a problem. Some fact patterns or gaps in information could mean that the client or the real estate agents may be victims of real estate fraud. Having an experienced attorney closing your deal adds a second layer of scrutiny. If you retain a real estate attorney early enough, they may be able to help mitigate these and other risks in buying a home.

Convention refugees who seek refuge or asylum in Canada are not immigrants. However, those refugees whose claims are accepted by the Immigration and Refugee Board (if refuge is claimed inside Canada) or by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (if refuge is claimed outside Canada), then become eligible to apply to remain in Canada as immigrants.
This class of immigrants are allowed to come to Canada because they have sufficient education, work experience, knowledge of English and/or French and other abilities that will help them to establish themselves successfully in Canada.
If you are a temporary foreign worker or a foreign student who graduated in Canada, you often have the qualities to make a successful transition from temporary to permanent residence. You are familiar with Canadian society and can contribute to the Canadian economy. You should have knowledge of English or French and qualifying work experience.
Persons who immigrate to Canada under the Provincial Nominee Program have the skills, education and work experience needed to make an immediate economic contribution to the province or territory that nominates them. They are ready to establish themselves successfully as permanent residents in Canada. To apply under the Provincial Nominee Program, applicants must be nominated by a Canadian province or territory.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents may sponsor close relatives or family members who want to become permanent residents of Canada. Sponsors must promise to support the relative or family member and their accompanying family members for a period of three to 10 years to help them settle in Canada.
There are circumstances where people may be allowed to immigrate to Canada for "humanitarian and compassionate considerations".
Maybe you've asked yourself this question because you know that the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website has all the application forms, kits, manuals and guides you need. Or maybe you know someone who has done it themselves.
